Two Rachel Weiszes Are Better Than One in Dead Ringers Trailer
Get ready for your new TV obsession!
Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for its upcoming psychological thriller limited series Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz in dual roles. And this trailer is giving us EVERYTHING.
Dead Ringers follows the Mantle twins, Beverly and Elliot. The twin gynecologists are described as two of the “most successful, brilliant, and extraordinary people you’ve ever met,” who are trying to redefine women’s health, birthing, and genetics.
But behind their genius, is a deeply codependent and unstable relationship. “It’s impossible to explain this relationship to anyone outside of it,” the twins explain. (Looks like we have some new favorite problematic queer women characters!)
“Baby sister, you’re so perfectly delicious, where do you come from?” Elliot says to her sister as the trailer shows them laying in bed together, one sister brushing hair out of her sister’s face.
When Beverly gets a new girlfriend, Elliot seems to lose it, exploding with jealousy. The sisters even share a passionate kiss on the neck, and soft caresses on the face. What is going on here?!
This show looks so deliciously and fulfillingly campy, we can’t wait to watch. As twin Rachel Weiszes kiss each other, revolutionize cloning, push science forward, and lose their grips on reality, Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” loudly plays, giving us the perfect tone for the series.
Weisz has said the series is a “psychosexual thriller that’s twisted and darkly comedic and camp and voyeuristic,” and added that “the show does intersect with some serious questions, but I hope people are entertained and moved and find it funny – it’s very funny.”
The release of the trailer was delayed by one day after the Nashville school shooting. There are no shootings in the trailer, so the release was delayed out of respect for the families and victims.
The show comes from Emmy-nominated writer and playwright Alice Birch (Normal People, Succession), and features directing by Sean Durkin, Karena Evans, Lauren Wolkstein, and Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama.
It also stars Britne Oldford, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, Jennifer Ehle, and Emily Meade. All six episodes will premiere April 21 on Prime Video.
