Mama, kudos.
The cast of RuPaul's Drag Race season 16 attended the Primetime Emmy Awards on the evening of Sunday, September 15 to celebrate the series' eight nominations. The drag competition show didn't end up snatching any trophies, but a separate, confusing claim from an on-location reporter was the reason why the queens actually felt riled up during the ceremony.
Around 8:59 p.m. ET, Chris Gardner, a senior staff writer from The Hollywood Reporter, shared a video of the Drag Race queens seemingly leaving their seats and wrote the following X post:
"After five wins, RuPaul’s Drag Race loses for best reality competition to The Traitors. After the category was announced the team from Drag Race (including all the queens) cleared out and headed to the lobby."
One of the Miss Congeniality winners of Drag Race season 16, Xunami Muse, wrote an even more thoughtful response to the original X post:
"You know, it's so interesting for me to experience these sort of situations where people, for the purpose of creating discourse online, which seems like a form of currency in this new age, will log in to create a scenario that satisfies their fantasy. Cuz all we did was go get a cocktail during a commercial break like a lot of others do. Mind you all of production and the cast stayed till the end, to support the academy. It's just what you do when you have manners. Not only that, we were waiting for the invite only after party for Emmy nominees. So I would like to know exactly what is the point of this made up scenario. Hope you got the followers that you so desperately seek."
