Over the years — and particularly in recent seasons — RuPaul’s Drag Race fans have grown to LOVE shipping queens when they display even the tiniest amount of chemistry (or even tension) between them.
Even though they are often just platonic dynamics, viewers still enjoy living in the fantasy that something could be happening between them. After all, shomances are very common in reality TV. But it wasn’t until the VH1 years that Drag Race really started to have a few of those...
16 regular seasons and eight All Stars seasons later, a few of these couples — real or imaginary — have gotten majorly shipped by the fanbase.
Scroll through to check out which queens got shipped together by the fans — and keep tuning into new episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 every Friday on MTV.
The first-ever potential showmance featured in the flagship Drag Race series was between Jinkx Monsoon and Ivy Winters back in season 5. For the record, Jinkx talked about having a crush on Ivy, but Ivy was already married and assumedly in a monogamous relationship. This never really went anywhere, but fans did live for the potential around this adorable couple.

Brooke Lynn Hytes and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo are, so far, the only Drag Race showmance in herstory where literally both queens acknowledged that it existed during the season, had scenes kissing each other, and even discussed the pairing with Mama Ru in the werk room. In the reunion, it was revealed that Brooke and Vanjie had already broken up… but the fans were definitely entertained while this was still going on.
The friendship between Gigi Goode and Crystal Methyd was turned into a full-on showmance in the minds of Drag Race fans. Ultimately, Gigi and Crystal did acknowledge the shipping and even hinted that there was some truth to it. It’s unlikely that anything that deep happened, but the Gigi and Crystal ship was going pretty strong in season 12.
The next wild Drag Race ship that took over the fandom was between Rosé and Denali in season 13. Even though both of these queens had respective partners at the time and only considered each other friends while filming Drag Race, the fans got really obsessed with them as a pair.
Truth be told, Kandy Muse had a huge crush on Joey Jay that wasn’t necessarily reciprocated. Still, this was a hilarious ship that Drag Race season 13 viewers loved to keep track of and make jokes/memes about.
The ship between Angeria Paris VanMicheals and Lady Camden started with these queens saying that they really liked each other’s accents. Camden loved listening to Angie’s Georgia accent, and Angeria appreciated Camden’s British accent. But these compliments did evolve into a bigger crush as the season went on, and the fans loved it all.
Pictures of Nymphia Wind and Plane Jane going on trips together were circulating on social media from the very beginning of season 16. As the season went on, however, things escalated, and fans started do legitimately ship these two queens.
Another season 16 ship is between Xunami Muse and Plane Jane. It all started when Morphine Love Dion accidentally(?) spilled some tea about Xunami having a crush on Plane. In her exit interview with Out, Xunami explained that she acknowledged Plane as a handsome guy but did not have a full-on crush on the costar.
One of the latest additions to this list of Drag Race showmances is Alexis Michelle and LaLa Ri while filming All Stars 8. Unfortunately, after spending most of the season promising LaLa to cook her some chicken dinner, Alexis landed in the top and picked LaLa’s lipstick — ultimately eliminating her love interest. The fans initially entertained this pairing, but many felt betrayed after Alexis sealed LaLa’s fate on the show.
