Season 47 of Survivor has barely gotten started, but fans are already getting queer storylines and moments on the show!
The cast of Survivor 47 includes a famous podcaster, comedian, and speechwriter: the one and only Jon Lovett of Pod Save America and Lovett or Leave It. However, he's not the only queer contestant in the season.
The premiere episode — which aired Wednesday, September 18 on CBS — showed Lovett teaming up with another competitor, Andy Rueda. And just like that, these two Survivor stars ended up bonding over being members of the LGBTQ+ community.
As noted in a Reality Blurred recap, Lovett and Rueda introduced themselves to each other and casually brought up some queer representation on the show. "I'm bi," Rueda said, which prompted Lovett to open up and say, "I'm gay."

Unfortunately, this queer alliance got cut in half pretty quickly.
Lovett, who worked as a speechwriter for President Obama, came into this season with a high profile and name recognition… alas, he still happened to be the first-eliminated contestant.
In the meantime, Rueda had a "physical and emotional breakdown" after the first challenge of Survivor 47, leading many viewers to believe that he might be voted off the island. That was not the case, though, as Rueda and the rest of the Gata tribe voted Lovett off instead.
Lovett revealed in an interview with EW that Rueda had committed to not voting off Lovett… but minds were changed, clearly!
"There's a moment that Andy and I had, which isn't in there, where Andy's like, 'I would never write your name down. You really are my friend.' And I kind of turned it in and I was like, 'Man, you can keep saying it. We'll see what happens tonight, but right now I just don't know that I can trust you. If you want to redeem yourself, I'm really excited to see that, but that's what has to happen.'"
New 90-minute episodes of Survivor season 47 air every Wednesday on CBS.
