Editor's note: this article contains spoilers for episodes 1-6 of Netflix's The Boyfriend.
Netflix's The Boyfriend is a groundbreaking dating series that shows the dynamics between queer men in Japan as they navigate dating, friendships, camaraderie, and even situationships.
Halfway through the season, castmate Usak reveals that he must leave the house (nicknamed "the Green Room") because he has a work trip coming up. During his announcement, Usak delivers an incredibly emotional speech that leaves everyone in the cast — and probably all the viewers at home, too — crying their eyes out.
Ultimately, Usak thanks everyone for the experience and reaffirms that he did get what he wanted from The Boyfriend: more confidence about himself and expressing his romantic feelings toward other men.
@loversbl0“I was able to have these feelings because you were here. Thank you.” Usak we gonna miss u, wish you the best in everything you gonna do. “We bought chicken breast too. Thank you”😭 Ps. Usak you are not only a great dancer and performer, you are an ARTIST full of talent, those characters you drew were incredibly beautiful. #theboyfriend #usak #theboyfriendnetflix
Most cast members are introduced in the very first episode of The Boyfriend, while others take a little longer to come into the picture. But besides getting a late introduction to Usak, we're unfortunately also forced to say goodbye to him a little too early.
It might be easy to judge a book by its cover and get distracted by Usak's muscles before watching the series — but it turns out that this 36-year-old go-go dancer is one of the shiest, sweetest, and well-meaning guys in the cast whose on-stage persona has nothing to do with his personal life.
It's quite sad to watch Usak leaving The Boyfriend, but it's also adorable to watch his growth on the show and actually see it playing out right in front of us.
New episodes of The Boyfriend are streaming every Tuesday on Netflix.
