5 iconic bops we have Victoria Monét's pen to thank for

Victoria Monét is a quintessential diva in the making as this triple threat superstar is now a three-time Grammy winner. After having a slow burn debut to the mainstream with Nightmares and Lullabies: Act 1 in 2014, she continued to feed our souls with her soulful, infectious records like "Ass Like That," "Experience," and "Moment" before wowing the world with her hit record "On My Mama."
The record was nominated for two Grammy Awards and won for Video of the Year and Best Dance Performance at the Soul Train Awards. Not only is our girl a superstar sensation, but her pen game is fire, too.
Let’s look at 5 bops we have thanks to Victoria Monét’s pen game.
Ariana Grande - 7 rings
Baby, if you weren't singing this record DOWN when it came out, you just weren't that girl I guess. Monét and Grande have been great friends for years now, and they have created a slew of magic together, including their hit record "Monopoly." However, Monét has been around with Grande for so many years that she understands her sound to a tee. This is just one of the umpteenth bangers the "Alright" star has written for the ponytail queen.
Chloe x Halle - Do It
During the pandemic, the sister-duo went all around the globe performing this lead single off of their second album, Ungodly Hour. But have you ever wondered who wrote these incredible, catchy lyrics?
Yup, Monet had her hand in this one, too. Collaborating with the Grownish stars, Scott Storch, Avedon, and Anton Kuehl-Joergensen, this feel-good, sexy anthem is a great record to get ready to and hit the town with your friends. "Now, that’s just how you do it!"
Nicki Minaj feat. Monica & Keyshia Cole - Love Me Enough
The Pink Friday 2 album has a slew of bops while also having records where Nicki Minaj shines on her own. After hopping on live with R&B royalty Keyshia Cole and Monica, Minaj shared a collaboration was on its way with the trio. The cheeky love record had some hands in the pot with it’s lyrics, with Monét being in the mix as well. Now, how did she have time to write this record while still giving us heat of her own and Jaguar II?
Love to see it!
Brandy - Rather Be
The vocal bible is an inspiration to many, and Brandy’s clear contralto vocal range is hard to mimic, so it’s a treat when you’re able to hear the icon sing. It’s also a treat if you can get the Full Moon singer to recite your lyrics, and make it a lead single on her seventh album. B7 was sonically an amazing R&B album, with critics praising "Rather Be" for her warm, raspy tone on the record. We wouldn’t be playing this record on repeat if it wasn’t for Brandy co-writing the record with Monét. Now, can we get a record with both of you next?
Ariana Grande - Be Alright
“Baby, you just gotta make up your mind, that every little thing is gonna be alright” are words to live by – and are words written by Monét. This upbeat, fun, joyful and uplifting record wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our girl Victoria! Co-written with Grande, Tommy Brown, Khaled Rohaim, Nicholas Audino, Lewis Hughes, and Willie Tafa, the record went to be certified platinum.
So, when you sit in your record and dare mum the question, “Who is Victoria Monet?” go do your Google searches and put respect on our Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and beautiful mother’s name. And that’s on my mama!
