Watch: Little Girl Reacts to Dad Transitioning

If children are our future, it looks like we might just be okay. Sure, it may be discouraging to see states pass laws banning trans people from using their preferred bathroom, but this video proves that even kids have the ability to embrace differences in others.

After 6-year-old Layla Ellis learned that her dad was transitioning, her reaction was similar to that of a child learning they're getting a baby brother or sister. Shalee was pleasantly surprised by her daughter's positive reaction when she explained that their patriarch identified as a woman.

"As soon as I started talking, her reaction was so incredibly mature and impressive," Shalee told Buzzfeed. "I instinctively had a mom moment and hit the record button to see if I could capture a tender moment to send to my wife, Mallory."
