Flying
If your pet will be traveling in the cargo hold, it's best to book direct flights whenever possible, to reduce delays and time on the hot tarmac, says BringFido.com.

Identification
Be sure your pet is microchipped and has an ID tag (with your phone number), and keep a photo handy in the event you get separated, writes SmarterTravel.com.

No Tummy Troubles
The American Kennel Club says that to avoid carsickness, your dog should have an empty stomach when traveling, so no feeding for six hours prior. He'll need water though, enough to stay hydrated but not full.
