Zaya Wade is the latest cover girl of Seventeen magazine, and the 2024 Out100 honoree winner opened up about the obsession she and her dad have in common: the hit LGBTQ+ Netflix series Heartstopper!

Zaya's father happens to be basketball legend Dwyane Wade — and the athlete has been very vocal about supporting his trans daughter for many years now. In her cover story interview, Zaya also revealed that they love binge-watching TV together.
"He texted me one night: 'I want to do movie night with you. Come down in one hour.' He set up candy and popcorn," Zaya told Seventeen. "I was scared because, you know, when your parents ask you to watch something, you're like... 'Ah, here we go. But then he said, 'This new show came out, Heartstopper,' and I was like, 'Oh my god!' It's very queer, so, of course, I'd heard about it. When I tell you, it was 1 in the morning, and we were on episode 8 of 9."
She added, "Every time a new one comes out, there's a text message: 'Oh my god, the new Heartstopper just dropped.'"
In the interview, Zaya also paused momentarily to ask the interviewer, "Wait, will Kit Connor read this?"

Zaya revealed that she and her dad are big fans of the actor, who plays Nick on Heartstopper.
"I saw Kit during Paris Fashion Week. I was walking and someone said, 'Oh, that was the guy from Heartstopper.' And I was like, 'Kit Connor? Oh my gosh.' I was freaking out. Immediately, I called my dad."
And, yes, Dwyane was starstruck, too! "That's our thing. We're such big fans."
Connor is undoubtedly going to hear about Zaya's fangirling now!
