The sleeper hit of the holiday film season may just well be Philomena. Starring legendary actor Judi Dench as an aging Irish woman who gave a child she had out of wedlock away for adoption in the United States, she's now searching for clues about him after moving on with her life and starting her family.
The film is based on a true story and adapted from BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith's book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, and the film stars Dench in a moving, maternal role alongside Steve Coogan (turning in a serious role, rather than his typically drole funnyman parts).
In this clip from the film, we see Philomena discover that her long-lost son was a gay politician. After being told that blunt reality, she asks: "Did he father any children?" When Coogan tells her that her son was gay, she seems nonplussed and responds, "Well I always knew that, but I just wondered if he might be bicurious..."
The film opens Nov. 22 in select theaters and will have a national rollout Nov. 27 (just in time for Thanksgiving viewing).
