Director Morgan Neville’s 'Twenty Feet From Stardom' focuses on the life of backup singers

This summer's most engaging rockumentary isn't about one of your favorite singers -- it's about the singers behind the singers. Through interviews with backup vocalists who've supported the likes of Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross, director Morgan Neville's Twenty Feet From Stardom depicts the high and low notes of cooing "yeah, yeah" on command.

Despite encouraging words from Mick Jagger and Sting, two poignant stories stand out: that of R&B songbird Lisa Fischer, a Grammy winner who waited too long to put out an LP and has settled for touring gigs with the Stones and Tina Turner; and of Darlene Love, the Phil Spector dynamo from classics "He's a Rebel" and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," who resorted to cleaning houses after the industry rejected her. Opens June 14.
