Left to right: The Spectacular Now, The To Do List, and Kick Ass 2
Eyes will roll and tempers will flare this summer as unpleasant adolescents have their moment on the big screen. Here, we rate the most tortured of the bunch based on our Carrie White scale of anguish.
THE SPECTACULAR NOW (August 2)
The Afflicted: Shailene Woodley's Aimee Finicky, a sci-fi-loving loner who, true to her name, is none too impressed with her peers
Coping Mechanism: Miles Teller's Sutter Keely, a popular, whiskey-swilling senior who's taken with Aimee despite her antisocial tendencies
How Angsty? Mostly just antisocial

THE TO DO LIST (July 26)
The Afflicted: High-school grad Brandy Clark, played by Aubrey Plaza, who's set on beefing up her bedroom bona fides before heading off to college
Coping Mechanism: The film's titular tally, which tracks the dirty deeds she wants to complete pre-matriculation
How Angsty? Mostly just horny

KICK ASS 2 (August 16)
The Afflicted: Hit-Girl, 16-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz's exceptionally foulmouthed assassin, brought out of retirement to defend the world from an evil army led by that dweeby dude who played McLovin
Coping Mechanism: Physical prowess, mostly in the form of wrecking guys twice her size with her fists, feet, and assorted deadly weapons -- all in the name of justice
How Angsty? Totally apoplectic
