If the British equivalent of the Oscars is any indication, DiCaprio and Iñarritú are leading the awards race this year
Since this year's Academy Awards ceremony is poised to be a dud, due to severe boycott threats and a lackluster list of nominees, we're getting close to degree zero of suspense as the same actors keep getting rewarded during other major award shows. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, held on Sunday, handed the big trophees to The Revenant : Leonardo DiCaprio won best actor in a leading role, while director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu took home the coveted best director nod. The Revenant also won Best Film and Best Cinematography.
As for the ladies, Brie Larson is getting closer to the big O as she wins another major award for her leading performance in Room, for which she already won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award, while Kate Winslet beat frontrunner Alicia Vikander for the best supporting actress award, thanks to her role in Steve Jobs.
