I Am Not Your Negro will be based off of James Baldwin's unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, which was set to follow the lives and assassinations of leaders Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Medgar Ever, and explore the mark they left on the American social and political landscape.
The documentary will premiere next month at the annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and directed by Raoul Peck, the film will shine light on what it means to be black in America, employing powerful quotes and recordings from Baldwin like this one: "You cannot lynch me and keep me in ghettos without becoming something monstrous yourselves."
In addition to being shown at TIFF, the film will also be screened at the New York Film Festival in October.
