Patti Smith Offers Rooney Mara Guidance in New Song to Song Clip

In a new clip onRolling Stone from Terrence Malick's upcoming Song to Song, rock 'n' roll legend Patti Smith talks to Rooney Mara about her late husband and offers Mara's character advice on her own relationship.

Song to Song follows four people, played by Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman, Ryan Gosling and Mara, navigating the Austin music scene. The project, which debuted at SXSW last week, was filmed over half a decade, including behind-the-scenes footage from the 2012 Austin City Limits Festival and cameos from names like Iggy Pop, Lykke Li, Florence and the Machine and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Check out the clip, below, before it opens in New York and Los Angeles on March 17.
