Wonder Woman On Track to Become Warner Brothers' Third Biggest Film Ever
Wonder Woman is holding up better in the box office than any superhero film has in 15 years, MSN reports--and it's on track to become the third biggest film ever for Warner Brothers. Yes, that includes all the Harry Potters films.
Currenly, Wonder Woman has earned $371.3 million domestically. The only Warner films above it now are The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and the final Harry Potter, which earned $381 million.
The film has a current multiple of 3.6 (a multiple is a movie's total income divided by it's opening weekend), and any number between 2.5 and 3 is considered really good. Wonder Woman earned $103.3 million in its opening weekend, but thanks to word of mouth, happy audiences and great critical reception, the movie shows little sign of slowing down.
It's the highest grossest film ever in history for a female director, Patty Jenkins.
"It feels like Wonder Woman will play all the way through August," said Warner Brothers president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein in MSN's report. "Right now, the movie is still in about 3,000 locations. Usually, the theater count would be a fraction of that at this point."
