Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role.

DC Comics is set to produce a Harley Quinn feature starring Margot Robbie, building on her character introduced in Suicide Squad. According to Deadline, the production studio is likely to employ its first-ever female Asian-American director for the film: Cathy Yan. Not to mention she'll be the first female Asian-American director ever for a mainstream superhero film.

Yan is the director behind Dead Pigs, which won the World Cinema Dramatic Award for Ensemble Acting at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Beyond that, she's mostly worked on short films as a producer and writer.

Deadlinereports it was Robbie herself who pushed for a female director on the new movie. The script is based on the "Birds of Prey" comic, which joins Quinn with other superheroines Black Canary, Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and Huntress. It's not confirmed if all these characters will make it to the final cut of the film.

The film is looking to start production within the year.
