Anne Hathaway Will Haunt Your Dreams in ‘The Witches’ Remake

Are you screaming? I’m screaming.

Anne Hathaway will star in a remake of early 90's classic The Witches, reimagining the role played by Anjelica Huston, which has terrified children for decades. Anne is finally pivoting to glamorous child murder...second Oscar incoming!

Variety reports that Hathaway was deciding between The Witches and a Sesame Street film and scheduling conflicts cleared up, allowing her to sign on for Warner Bros' remake, which will be directed by Robert Zemeckis (who will also write the script) and produced by horror masters Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro.

The 1990 film is a loose adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's book, which follows a young English boy and his Norwegian grandmother, who encounter a conference full of square-footed, wig-wearing witches at their hotel during a seaside vacation (petition to cast literally every drag queen as extras in the remake). Hathaway will play the Grand High Witch, a masked monster who plans to transform the children of England into mice with magically spiked candy. "Sources close to the project say Zemeckis' version will be more rooted in the original source material," says Variety.

The Grand High Witch is a glamorous monster whose beautiful mask conceals the face of true evil. So...not a stretch for Hathaway? I kid, but this is the perfect chance for the Oscar winner to unleash her inner bitch the way she did so deliciously in Oceans 8. No word yet on when the film will begin production or when it will be released, but you already know we are following this story.
