It's easy to play "spot the influences" with Yoko and the Oh No's. The queer garage-punk trio combines scuzzed-out guitar jams and a glam sensibility that is equal parts '90s club-kid couture and baby T. Rex. Then, of course, there's that fantastically punny band name. Yet for 20-year-old lead singer Max Goldstein, the band's self-titled debut is ultimately about expanding certain facets of his own identity.

"I dress up every day, so when I'm onstage I want to make it a little more special," says Goldstein, who does double duty as an ice cream scooper in his home city of Chicago. "I've gotten Boy George comparisons since I was in middle school, so obviously I'm pretty out there. I definitely don't try to hide anything."
