The drag star needs help funding her first album
Season 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race saw two insanely talented singers make it to the top three, and then lose to Bianca Del Rio. Both Courntey Act (Shane Jenek) and Adore Delano (Daniel Noriega) competed on Idol -- Australian and American, respectively -- but Adore is the only one of the two to have released an album. Seeing Adore's success and happiness, Courtney says she's ready to take the plunge as well:
"When Bianca and I went to Adore's concert in Sydney in March, I watched her onstage rocking out with her band and I was so proud and so inspired. I realised that I needed to step my pussy up and follow my dreams. I was waiting for all the bits of the puzzle to come together, but sometimes you just have bite the bullet and do it."
She's launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund her first EP, Kaleidoscope, which will feature seven songs. Collaborations on the album will include work with Sam Sparro (Black & Gold), Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), The Prodigal and Chris Aarnot. "I want to create an EP that will take drag, gender diversity, sexuality and glamour to the mainstream," Courtney explains. "I love the way drag breaks down walls and gets people thinking and smiling."
She's looking to raise $20,000 by May 21, a small part of the nearly $60,000 Courntey estimates will be needed to make the album a reality. She's offering some incredible rewards for supporters--anything from a digital copy of the EP to a personally-written song sang over Skype, breakfast, or even a private dinner party.
