“Some things are more important than a rock show.”
Legendary singer Bruce Springsteen stood up for the LGBT community today when he cancelled his concert in Greensboro, North Carolina. Last month, the state passed a discriminatory bathroom law that restricts transgender people from using the facilities of their choice.
Springsteen explained on his website:
"Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments ... I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters...Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry--which is happening as I write--is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards."
Let's just say Springsteen was born to run from North Carolina and stand up for what's right.
Now we're dancing in the dark over the news.
Okay, no more puns. Thanks, Bruce!
