Jackie Shane, the trailblazing transgender soul singer, will release a collection of music, called Any Other Way, on October 20. Her first release in more than 40 years, the anthology features six 45s from the '60s, as well as previously unreleased cuts and a live recording from her iconic 1967 concert at Toronto's Sapphire Tavern.
Any Other Way is naturally steeped in lyrics about her identity and queer experience living in Canada, where homosexuality wouldn't be decriminalized until 1969. "Tell her that I'm happy, tell her that I'm gay, I wouldn't have it... any other way," Shane sings triumphantly on the album's warm, horn-driven title track.
Before Shane's highly anticipated album releases later this month via Numero Group, you can stream all 25 tracks on CBC. Watch a preview of Any Other Way, below, and pre-order the collection, here.
