Celebrating the seventh birthday of Kanye West's legendary album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Nicki Minaj reflected over Instagram on the iconic song "Monster," and how the track almost didn't make the LP's final tracklist.
"Kanye called me to tell me Jay put a verse on this song & that he was still deciding if he would put it on his album," Minaj said. "Haha. It was like an hour long call where I tried to convince him to let the song stay on his album. He felt this verse would end up being the talk of the album. I said: YOU'RE KANYE WEST!!!!"

It's important to note that Minaj's verse on the song is perhaps the most powerful of her career, and one of the best verses in all rap history. It even features a growling voice and a full-fledged scream--but, Minaj remembers, Kanye wanted her to go bigger with it.
"He wanted me to add more of that growling monster voice and I felt it was over kill," she muses. "He wouldn't give in. In the end, maybe he was right."
