Watch the rising Brooklyn performer's ultra-glam new video.
A staple performer in New York's underground queer community, singer/songwriter Sandflower is undoubtedly on the rise. If you haven't yet heard her music, you've likely seen her walking around NYC--on the sidewalks or in the train--with her larger-than-life hair and a magnetic attitude. Self-described as a "genre-fluid artist," Sandflower champions the "everyday goddess," and delivers a sound that's equal parts M.I.A. and Madonna.

The Brooklyn-bred artist first broke out with her dreamy power-pop single, "Do Whatcha Wanna (Boeng Tranga)," and followed with her tenacious call to action, "BUMP," featuring Migs Migster. More recently, Sandflower delivered a third single, called "Sugar Honey Ice Tea," which sees her calling out all the bullshit and flaunting her boastful lyrical prowess. "Every word you say is so ficticious," she purs on the David Sisko-produced cut.
Sandflower's new "Sugar Honey Ice Tea" video, out today exclusively on OUT, features the singer stomping all over NYC in ultra-glam looks. "You see I'm fly and I know it," she spits, dripping in gold with a queenly headpiece. But Sandflower's message isn't about ego, it's about self-empowerment, also featuring alongside her a number of diverse, marginalized powerhouses, including trans performer Love Bailey.

"Diversity and inclusion are so important to me and this video truly represents that," Sandflower told OUT. "I feel lucky to have so many courageous friends who use their art as a sledgehammer against fear and oppression, and many of them are in this video. 'Sugar Honey Iced Tea' is a piece of my musical journey, The Birth of the Everyday Goddess, which aims to build up those of us society tries to cast away--we ain't going nowhere, boo."
