Allie X Drops Video for Relatable Anthem, 'That's So Us'

The alt-pop singer's looping visual was captured in a closed mental institution.

LA-based singer/songwriter Allie X just dropped her debut full-length album, CollXtion II, and it's easily one of the strongest releases of 2017. Packed with alt-pop summer bops, album highlight, "That's So Us," offers a relatable anthem about the quirks of functional, long-lasting relationships.

"What I like about you, baby, is how you annoy me daily," the Toronto native sings. "But you still fucking amaze me, That's so us! That's so us!" Throughout the synth-driven, sunny single, Allie reflects on everything she has in common with her lover. "We make peppermint tea and watch Space Odyssey," she says. "I sing in the car, while you play air guitar." It's simple, stupidly cute and absolutely addictive.

Allie's newly released lyric video sees her peering through a broken window, amidst walls with faded, shredded paint. The looping visual was shot in an abandoned mental institution in New York, where she filmed a series of GIFs for all 10 tracks on CollXtion II.

"We did a shoot in November, in New York at this closed down mental institution on Long Island, called Kings Park Psychiatric Center," Allie told OUT. "We had to sneak in. It's crazy and super old. There's paint peeling on all the walls, there's abandoned furniture, beds, clothing, there's graffiti, as well, because a lot of people break in there. I'm interested in photos that have a grotesqueness to them, but also a beauty. I'm always trying to find that juxtaposition."
