The queer indie rocker takes on a psychedelic classic.

Following the release of her impressive debut album, Everbody Works--released this spring--queer indie rocker Jay Som shared today a bedroom-pop cover of the Beatles' psychedelic 1967 classic, "Strawberry Fields Forever."

Her woozy, lo-fi version is a simple update on the original, avoiding the overwrought approach so many musicians take when tackling iconic songs. Much like her breakout LP, Som (real name: Melina Duterte) revels in introspective vocal delivery and intimate production--a genuine approach that would've sat well with the four Beatles.

On Soundcloud, the artist writes, "I was commissioned to make this and they didn't use it." Despite being dismissed, you can still stream her successful cover, below.
