Rihanna Drags Diplo, Compares His Songs to Airport Reggae Music

Rihanna

Damn.

Diplo's electronic music trio, Major Lazer, has a stacked lineup of A-List artist collaborations, from Justin Bieber to Ariana Grande and Travis Scott. But there's one artist the mega-DJ/producer can't seem to lock in. In a new interview with GQ, Diplo admits Rihanna's "the one artist that we can't ever get," recounting a long history of the Barbados Bad Gal turning down collaborations.

He originally played Rihanna "Lean On," which was eventually released in 2015 with MO, but she hit back, telling Diplo, "I don't do house music." The DJ remembers being embarrassed--"I face-palmed so hard on that one"--but it wasn't enough to fully discourage him. During another studio session with Future, The Weeknd and Metro Boomin, Diplo hoped he'd be able to lure Rihanna in, but instead she delivered the most delicious drag.

"I was so contact high," Diplo explained. "Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I'm leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, This sounds like a reggae song at an airport. [laughs] I was like, I'm gonna go kill myself."

And Rihanna's since claimed the scorching criticism, proudly posting to her Instagram a screenshot of Paper's write-up on the topic:
