Justin Bieber Teams Up With 'Sorry' Hitmakers For New Single, 'Friends'

Justin Bieber

Yet another summer smash.

Following the massive success of his Luis Fonsi collab, "Despacito," Justin Bieber returned today with yet another summer smash. The 23-year-old pop star joined forces with the same team behind "Sorry" to create "Friends," an upbeat single that sees Bieber asking his ex-lover, "Can we still be friends?"

Produced by BloodPop (Lady Gaga, Madonna, HAIM), and co-written by hitmaking duo Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, Bieber's latest picks up where he left off on Purpose, delivering that same emotional pop sound that's at once euphoric and pained. It's appropriate, considering BloodPop, Tranter and Michaels all had a heavy hand in the acclaimed 2015 LP.

While there's no confirmation on whether "Friends" suggests a new album from Bieber is coming in the near future, one of the Purpose producers, Poo Bear, recently told Billboard that "it's time for a new body of work." The singer also cancelled the remaining dates of his international Purpose Tour to focus on his "soul and well-being"--another indicator of music to come.
