"No project related, just beats."
As a professional musician, it's easy for your love of the craft to get lost in the need to produce work. Following the success of Kaytranada's debut album, 99.9%, the queer producer likely felt such pressures, but his new batch of one-off Soundcloud singles shifts focus for a bit of capital FUN. "I forgot about that," he tweeted Labor Day with the release of three original songs. "I'm fine with only making beats and to see what will come next with that."
Kaytranada's instrumentals highlight his eclectic approach to production, layering sounds together to make fresh, hip-hop-leaning beats. All three are released entirely without vocals, but the Montreal producer's track record of collabs includes Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige--an A-list ineup that would do wonders with any one of his instrumentals. Listen to everything, below.
