“James Baldwin says, ‘An artist’s job is to disturb the peace!’"
Tony winner and former OUT 100 honoree Billy Porter has a new music video for his single "Wash That Man," off of his album The Soul Of Richard Rodgers.
The video is a gorgeous, sensual visual representation of Porter's musicality while embodying a spirit of resistance.
"Our brainstorm session was more of a conversation about politics and our responsibility as artists to respond, react, and resist the social and political injustices we find ourselves in today," explains director Kena Tangi Dorsey. "Even though the message is political, I still wanted to make it sexy, entertaining and an aesthetically beautiful video to watch. It was important for us to make sure the message was relayed boldly, fiercely and with no apologies."

Since Porter's Best Actor win for his turn in Cyndi Lauper's Kinky Boots, the Broadway veteran has been churning out powerful and emotional music of his own, including a gorgeous cover of the Sound of Music classic "Edelweiss." His newest work sees the artist more politically charged than ever before:
"James Baldwin says, 'An artist's job is to disturb the peace!'" explained Porter. "I take my job very seriously. Get your war clothes on kids, it's time to fight! #Resistyall."
