Madonna Gave a Surprise Staircase Performance at the Met Gala

At last night's Met Gala, there was one star who must have felt quite at home among the religious references of the evening's 'Heavenly Bodies' theme: Madonna, the one true God on Earth. Naturally, the icon found a way to assume the night's spotlight--with a surprise performance on the marble Met stairs.

Madonna arrived for the evening in a Jean Paul Gaultier gown and veil, but after dinner stripped into a cloak and descended the staircase as church bells gonged. She sang "Like A Prayer" with a backing choir of Gregorian chants before launching into a rendition of "Hallelujah" as dancers ran to and fro around her. Take a look:
