Lana Del Rey’s New Song Is Almost Too Lana Del Rey
“hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it.”
When she's not planning to fuck someone the fuck up (period), Lana Del Rey is a musician. In fact, she's one of the most prolific indie-pop chanteuses of our time. Her sixth studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, is due out March 29, and on Wednesday Del Rey released a new single from the record, one with a name that's almost too long to tweet. "hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it." Whew, relatable.
The lyrics are in typical Del Rey fashion: "tearing around in my fucking nightgown / 24/7 Sylvia Plath / writing in blood on the walls 'cause the ink in my pen don't work in my notepad."
"Don't ask if I'm happy, you know that I'm not / But at best I can say I'm not sad," she sings in the chorus. "'Cause hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have." The lyrics almost read like one of those Lana Del Rey lyric memes that are just jumbles of words like "daddy made me eat the cherry with my pretty little mouth killed me in the summertime." They are almost too Lana, but we're here for it.
"hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it" is the third track Del rey has released from Norman Fucking Rockwell in full, following "Mariners Apartment Complex" and "Venice Bitch." She's teased a smattering of other tracks on Instagram and is confirmed to headline the 2019 Buku Music + Art Project in New Orleans on March 22nd and 23rd, with international festival dates to follow this summer.
