Sam Smith can dance you, guys. OK sure, maybe he won't be competing on So You Think You Can Dance or appearing at World of Dance any time soon but he can hold a bit of choreography. And if you don't believe us, watch his new "How Do You Sleep?" video!
For the most part, the video is pretty simple. It's Smith, almost a dozen dancers all in a studio, and then a few random cuts of Smith with some sort of robot -- at one point he's even wearing what looks to be Syro high heeled boots in a robot-operated photoshoot. And while that's all fine and good, Miss Smith holds her own with Parris Goebel-choreographed moves. We have decided to continue stanning!
Last year when Smith released his "Promises" video featuring Calvin Harris and a cadre of members of the ballroom scene voguing, Jamari Balmain (then Jamari 007) told Billboardthat Smith decided that he would leave the dancing to the professionals. "As far as getting him to actually vogue," Jamari said, "He was like 'nah I'm good, I'll leave that to you guys.'" Well well well, it looks like the tables have turned and we even have some Old Way vogue inspired sets in here.
But with such a relatively pulled back video treatment the focus is on Smith and the dancers he picked for the project, and boy did he pick a group. Not only are they all fucking gorgeous, but they are are also pretty talented. Julio Marcelino, who is featured in the video is a member of the boy group The Kiss Boyz (fellow member Anthony Garza is also in the video), and was also recently on tour with Mariah Carey, performing in drag. Steven Charles Guerrero is always cutting up on stage with Janet Jackson and Jalen Preston performed for Beyonce at Beychella! It's quite the cast.
And since we are reporters, we've done the work to cull a list of their Instagrams here for easy following. You can thank us later.
