In what is very likely the largest musical event ever put on, on Saturday Lady Gaga and Global Citizen put on a televised concert special One World: Together at Home. Co-hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert, the event ran all day featuring stories from the front lines of fighting the global pandemics, PSAs, and performances by celebrated musical artists.
One World was not a fundraiser. Gaga made that clear when she announced the event writing that it was meant to "celebrate the power of the human spirit. Instead, Gaga and the Global Citizen team worked behind the scenes to raise money for various causes connected to the crisis. Today, they announced $127.9 million in commitments to put towards "support of healthcare workers in the fight." Some of that money will go to the World Health Organization, which is needed as Donald Trump recently halted funds to that body.

Interspersed, and sometimes during, musical performers stars like Oprah, Beyonce, and Ellen DeGeneres, as well as many others, gave PSAs. Beyonce discussed how the pandemic is disproportionately impacting Black communities. DeGeneres put a spotlight on the variety of ways that communities have come together to show little acts of kindness to one another. J Balvin even gave a quick and easy bilingual tutorial on steps you can take to stay safe if you can't quarantine.

Though Gaga kicked off the main event at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, it had gotten started earlier at 2 p.m. Of the early performances, Adam Lambert covered "Mad World" by Gary Jules.
Another early performance was Christine and the Queens. For her part, the pansexual artist sang her French track "People, I've Been Sad" in what we contend was one of the best performances of the night.

Once the headline event started, event organizer Lady Gaga kicked things off with her version of Nat King Coles' "Smile"

After Billy Porter performed the song, in part, to open the Oscars earlier this year, Sir Elton John gave us a rousing "I'm Still Standing" for his part of the night's performances. The music icon dedicated the set to those working on the front lines.
Reprising an old collaboration, vocal powerhouses Sam Smith and John Legend did their song remotely. While Legend played his piano and Smith listened via an AirPod, the two sang "Stand By Me."

To close out the night, there was a remote group performance of Andrea Bocelli's "The Prayer." With the Chinese pianist Lang Lang providing the music, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, John Legend and Bocelli herself gave a beautiful rendition of the timeless track.
