MUNA & Phoebe Bridgers Recreated a Lesbian Classic in Their New Video

MUNA & Phoebe Bridgers Recreated a Lesbian Classic in Their New Video

MUNA

"Silk Chiffon" is one of the best, and catchiest sapphic pop anthems since Tegan & Sara’s “Closer” and Lesbian Jesus Hayley Kiyoko’s “Girls Like Girls.”

MUNA is back with another queer bop, and this time, they've brought back up.

The LA-based band has teamed up with indie-rock superstar Phoebe Bridgers for a new song, "Silk Chiffon," releasing an equally great music video to go along with it.

It's a fun little bop about queer love, complete with MUNA's pop hooks and Bridgers' rock guitar riffs, and is the queer, indie-pop anthem we've been waiting for. It's endlessly catchy, supremely relatable, and perfect for singing as loud as it takes to get all your feelings out.

MUNA lead singer Katie Gavin takes the first verse about developing feelings for another woman, and gives the second verse to four-time Grammy nominee Bridgers. "Silk Chiffon/That's how it feels, oh, when she's on me," they both sing as the chorus comes around.

"I'm high and I'm feeling anxious/Inside the CVS," Bridgers relatably sings as the electric guitar picks up. "When she turns 'round halfway down the aisle/with that 'you're on camera' smile/like she wants to try me on." These two singers have perfectly captured what it feels like to have a gay crush!

This song is the band's first since signing with Bridgers' record label, Saddest Factory, and damn, what a debut! Bridgers is also taking the band with her when she goes on tour this year.

The video was directed by Ally Pankiw, who directed the full first season of Mae Martin's Netflix dramedy Feel Good, and has also worked on Hulu's Shrill and The Great, as well as Schitt's Creek and Tig Notaro's One Mississippi. Pankiw was inspired by the classic lesbian film But I'm a Cheerleader when making the video for "Silk Chiffon."

Just like the movie, the video follows a girl (Gavin) who gets sent to a pink and blue segregated conversion therapy group home with other queers. Bridgers plays the pink-haired woman running the home. (BTW, Phoebe, pink is a GREAT color on you!)

By the end of the video, the girls from MUNA have escaped the group home and are able to perform their song at a gay bar. It's the perfect ending to this perfect song, and a perfect tribute to one of the greatest lesbian films of all time.

"Silk Chiffon" is a certified bop, and it's one of the best sapphic pop anthems since Tegan & Sara's "Closer" and Lesbian Jesus Hayley Kiyoko's "Girls Like Girls." This is an instant WLW classic. Check out the music video below!
