All the LGBTQ+ 2023 Grammy Nominees We’re Rooting For
Lizzo, Brandi Carlile, & Steve Lacy lead the queer nominees at the 2023 Grammys!
The Grammy nominations were announced earlier today, meaning we're officially in Awards Season! As usual, queer artists had a great showing, stepping in and collecting a ton of nominations, including in the big categories.
The leading nominee was Beyonce, who got nine, bringing her total up to 88 nominations, tying her with her husband Jay-Z for most nominations in history. Lesbian singer Brandi Carlile came in with seven nominations, leading all queer artists. Lizzo got nominations in all three of the Big Three categories - album, song, and record of the year - and Carlile and Steve Lacy are each nominated in two of them. Brandi Carlile
Brandi Carlile expanded upon her legend, earning another seven Grammy nominations this year, raising her career total to 25. She's previously won six awards. This year she's nominated in the major categories Record of the Year for "You and Me on the Rock" featuring Lucius, and Album of the Year for In These Silent Days. She's also nominated in the Rock Performance and Song categories, Americana Performance and Album, and American Roots Song categories.

Lizzo
Lizzo got five nominations this year, including for Record and Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance for "About Damn Time," and Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album for Special. She's previously won three Grammys.

Steve Lacy
Lacy picked up his first nominations in major categories, with nominations for Record and Song of the Year for "Bad Habits." He's also up for the Pop Solo Performance and Progressive R&B Album categories. He's been nominated twice before, once with The Internet and once for his debut solo album Apollo XXI in 2020.

Sam Smith & Kim Petras
Petras picked up her first Grammy nomination and Smith picked up their seventh nomination for their chart-topping song "Unholy." Smith's last Grammy nominations and wins came in 2015 for their debut album In the Lonely Hour and the song "Stay With Me."

Kaytranada
For the third year in a row, Kaytranada has picked up a Grammy nomination. He's nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Recording for "Intimidated" featuring H.E.R.. He won two awards in 2021.

Lady Gaga
Mother Monster scored two more Grammy nominations this year, picking one up in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category for her song "Hold My Hand" from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. She's also nominated in the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category for the soundtrack.

Brothers Osborne
The Brothers picked up their tenth Grammy nomination this year. It comes in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for the song "Midnight Rider's Prayer." They won the Grammy in this category in 2020 for "Younger Me."

Randy Rainbow
Randy Rainbow has picked up his first Grammy nomination in the Best Comedy Album category. He'll go up against Patton Oswalt, Jim Gaffigan, alleged sexual miscreant Louis C.K., and obsessed transphobe Dave Chappelle.

Omar Apollo
Apollo picked up his first ever Grammy nomination in the Best New Artist category. He previously has earned two Latin Grammy nominations.

Gay singer Perfume Genius got his first ever nomination as a part of the the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' song "Spitting Off the Edge of The World," which was nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance.
