"I want it to become part of the norm of discussion in schools, so discussing it in literature, discussing it in history, so that we don’t treat it as separate."

British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn wants LGBT history taught in schools, reports The Guardian.

At aPink Newsceremony on Thursday honoring former Prime Minister David Cameron as "Ally of the Year," Corbyn commended the Cameron for his efforts in securing equal marriage for the UK.

"Without any ambiguity - without his tenacity, without his commitment, without his persistence and without a few hundred Labour MPs, equal marriage would not be law in this country today," said Corbyn, who also took the opportunity to deliver his own LGBT rights agenda.

"I firmly believe the role of government is to challenge the environment where hate festers, and that begins with education. Because the more we know, the less we fear," he continued. "Imagine this embedded in the heart of school curriculum. Our children would be learning about the brilliant mathematician Alan Turing, whose contribution did so much to bring the second world war to an end."

Corbyn was later asked by the Press Association if there should be anaLGBT history month along the lines of Black History Month.

"I want it to become part of the norm of discussion in schools, so discussing it in literature, discussing it in history, so that we don't treat it as separate," Corbyn replied, citing Alan Turing and Oscar Wilde as examples of figures necessary of being taught in schools.

"To say: 'Well, look, Oscar Wilde was a gay man, Oscar Wilde wrote great poetry, great literature, and suffered the most appalling treatment.' As did Alan Turing, who was chemically castrated, which is unbelievable in this day and age."
