Lady Gaga sat down with the Dalai Lama at the US Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Prepared with notes, the singer asked the Dalai Lama about compassion and kindness. The previous day, the religious leader had given a talk on the importance of compassion as the pillar of world peace. He sat with the pop star to discuss the importance of kindness, to ourselves as well as to others.
Leading up to the meeting, Gaga used the hashtag #kindyouth and had gathered questions from younger fans for the figurehead of mindfulness and Eastern philosophy.
One of the topics covered was the Orlando shooting, and how to best move forward after the fallout. Both the Dalai Lama and Gaga stressed the importance of not letting evil divide us, as that is its ultimate goal.
The Dalai Lama tried to explain how to cope with the event, however brutal, and see how we might learn from it and grow.
