Trans Model Gigi Gorgeous Detained in Dubai Airport For Hours

24-year-old model and Internet personality Gigi Gorgeous was detained for over five hours at Dubai International Airport after officers discovered she was trans.

In an Instagaram post, Gorgeous described the event as "one of the scariest moments of my life."

She was released from the airport after her friend, Nats Getty, was able to meet her there. Getty is included in her post below.

After being detained and held at the Dubai airport for over 5 hours, this was the moment my baby came to rescue me. Yesterday was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. How you can be denied entry somewhere just because of who you are is seriously disgusting and also very scary. This further proves the need for CHANGE. I am now on my way to somewhere much more accepting. Safe and sound and happy. I love you guys

Gigi told TMZ that an immigration officer had said, "I was told you are transgender. You cannot come into the country," and that officers had falsely reported her passport saying she was a male.

Born Gregory Allan Lazzarto, Gorgeous rose to fame after documenting her transition on YouTube. She told People last year that she never got to come out to her mother, who died when she was 19.
