She's the 20th transgender person killed in 2016.
According to the Windy City Times, a transgender woman named T.T. was found dead in Chicago's Garfield Park on Sunday night. Although reports have referred to the deceased as male, T.T. was a well known member of the transgender community in Chicago's West Side.
"Yesterday at approximately 8:45 p.m., some of our officers discovered the body of what appeared to be an adult male, appearing to be between 25 and 35 years of age," Chicago Police Department said, unaware of the victim's apparent gender identity.
Police confirmed that a body was found on the 4500 block of West Monroe with a laceration to the neck, and a knife was recovered nearby. They were unable to confirm the victim's name. No arrests have been made and detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.
