The posters were put up on the same day the school's first LGBT center opened.

Homophobic fliers encouraging LGBT students to commit suicide were found on the campus of Cleveland State University on Monday, the same day the school opened their first LGBT center. Alongside an illustration of a man with a noose around his neck and statistics about suicide rates in the LGBT community, it was punctuated with this horrible suggestion: "Follow your fellow faggots."

The fliers have since been taken down but the effect was made, albeit with incorrect statistics. The stats they listed were actually lower than the most recent LGBT suicide rates. In response to the hateful act, the CSU issues a statement, saying that "a spirit of inclusiveness will always be central to the very identity of our University."

The university has yet to find the person responsible for the fliers, but the reaction from the community has been swift. "The coercion of someone attempting to take their own life, there is no humor in that. There will never be humor in that. There is nothing funny about death," Eris Eady with the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland said. For the LGBT community at CSU, the fliers are a reminder of the homophobia that still exists on campus.
