It couldn't have been written any better if it were an episode of Law and Order. Ohio congressman Wes Goodman, who has long history of speaking out against the LGBTQ community and championing a "committed natural marriage" (read: heterosexual), has resigned from his position following the discovery of him having sex with another man in his own office.
Goodman is (was?) about as cookie cutter of a Republican as you can get. Along with the usual ironic combination of being pro-life and pro-guns, Goodman also recently shared a picture on his now-locked Instagram of himself in front of a sign for Focus on the Family, an anti-LGBT group. Focus on the Family is the very group whose leader, James Dobson, attributed the 2012 shooting of innocent children at Sandy Hook Elementary School to "God's judgment" for people accepting gay marriage.
"We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life," Goodman said after he was exposed. "That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals for public service." Correct us if we're wrong, but husband, wife, and husband's same-sex lover doesn't sound like a "traditional" family to us.
