One month after the country legalized same-sex marriage, Australia played host to the country's first same-sex wedding this weekend in Sydney.
Amy Laker and Lauren Price were married Saturday and made history as Australia's first legal same-sex spouses. Although same-sex marriages aren't supposed to start in the country until next year, the couple received a waiver because the ceremony had already been planned at great expense.
The two women gave their vows, which were administered with gender-neutral language, and most importantly--their adorable dog, Malibu, was the ringbearer.
The journey toward marriage equality in Australia hasn't been easy. But the smiles on these brides' faces are the first signs of a bright, new future for LGBTQ couples down under.
