At a time when queer people need all the visibility they can get
Designer Stefano Gabbana distanced himself from labeling his sexuality in a recent interview, while also taking shots at gay rights and the gay-rights movement.
The 55-year-old luxury fashion designer told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that "the word 'gay' was invented by those who need to label people, and I don't want to be identified by my sexual choices."
Gabbana added that LGBTQ groups "often serve as a defense, but I don't want to be protected by anyone, because I've done nothing wrong."
The now-controversial designer made similar statements in January, after Gabbana praised Melania Trump for wearing one of his designs.
