The GOP tax reform would hurt poor and minority communities the most.

The Republican tax plan passed the House and Senate this week and is poised to become law. While many progressives worry about the threat posed to middle-class Americans, LGBTQ rights organizations in particular fear the impact on poor, queer people.

GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, "this scam tax bill will have serious consequence on the livers of our nation's more marginalized communities." GLAAD specifically pointed to the provision of the tax reform that eliminates the individual mandate under the Affordable Care Act.

"If the Trump-Pence tax scam becomes law, programs crucial to the LGBTQ community like Medicare, Medicaid, global HIV & AIDS programs, and the Ryan White Care Act will surely face future efforts to cut their benefits," said David Stacy, director of governmental affairs at the Human Rights Campaign.
