Hillary Clinton Reminds Us 'The Future is Female' in First Speech Since Inauguration

Hillary Clinton

"Remember, you are the heroes and history makers—the glass ceiling-breakers of the future."

The future is still female, or at least Hillary Clinton gives us hope that it is. In her first speech since the Inauguration, Clinton returned in the form we've come to know and, at times reluctantly, love: Her blue eyes, almost smile, modest jacket and pant combination--they all felt comforting as she reminded us what we still have to do in the wake of Trump's win.

"Now more than ever we need to stay focused on the theme of this year's conference: be bold," she said. "We need strong women to step up and speak out. We need you to dare greatly and lead boldly. So please, set an example for every women and girl out there who's worried about what the future holds and wonders whether our rights, opportunities and values will endure."

Clinton's speech was recorded for the 2017 Makers Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The annual gathering was a call for women and men to "be bolder," especially in regards to gender inequality and violence against women.

After an election reminding us how difficult it can be to break the glass ceiling, it's nice to see Hillary echoing words she said during her campaign: "Remember, you are the heroes and history makers--the glass ceiling-breakers of the future," she said. "As I've said before, I'll say again, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and every opportunity in the world."
