Brooklyn-based rapper Uncle Meg, whose debut album Bug came out in 2016, recently announced that he's transgender, and has begun publicly preparing for top surgery this month--March 15, to be exact.
In a video diary outlining the artist's personal preparation, he admits the surgery is something he's wanted for about 5 years, before breaking down the process for other transmen who're interested in having top surgery. From gathering recommendation letters to getting preparatory blood work done, Uncle Meg's video offers candid, informative commentary on the complex experience.
He continues, discussing essentials he has heard will help the recovery process, including a circle neck pillow, button-down shirt, bendable straws, movies, sweatpants and gauze. Uncle Meg somewhat jokingly advises against Italian food, since garlic is a blood thinner, but gets serious about not smoking and no exercise.
