The "Lone Star State" is the just the latest to push for anti-LGBT legislation. SB6 recently passed the Texas state Senate, moving on to the House. Much like North Carolina's HB2 and many similar bills, it would require people to us the bathroom corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate.
In response, more than 55 athletes have signed an open letter condemning the piece of legislation. Robbie Rogers, Gus Kenworthy, Greg Louganis, Brian Anderson, and Aydian Dowling are just a few of the heavy hitters (every pun intended) to put commit their names.
Published via Athlete Ally, the letter reads:
"Texas can choose to uphold the values of sport by rejecting SB6 and other anti-LGBT bills, and the negative impact they would have. These bills are answers in search of a problem that doesn't exist. SB6 isolates, excludes, and others the transgender community and exacerbates many of the issues transgender Texans already face. The only solution that embodies the spirit of sport is to expand equality by embracing diversity. That diversity is inclusive of the LGBT community and is why we hope you will do the right thing and reject these discriminatory bills."
