Debra Messing Demands Action from Ivanka Trump During GLAAD Awards

Debra Messing

"It's time to do something."

Ahead of her highly anticipated Will & Grace reboot, Debra Messing was honored this weekend with GLAAD's Excellence in Media Award. The award was presented by Girls actor Andrew Rannells, recognizing Messing's work as a media professional, advocating for greater visibility and understanding for the LGBTQ community.

During Messing's acceptance speech, the actress demanded that everyone actively raise their voices and specifically call the Congressional Switchboard in Washington D.C. Encouraging all attendees to take out their cellphones and enter the Congress' public number, (202) 224-3121, Messing asked that they all text it to 10 different friends and call every single day.

She also spoke directly to Ivanka Trump: "It's not enough to simply say that women's issues are important to you," Messing said. "It's time to do something. You can change the lives of millions of women and children just by telling your dad stories about real people who are suffering. Don't let him separate immigrant mothers from their American-born children. Don't let him take health care away from women who need it. Don't allow him to make trans kids like Gavin [Grimm] fight in court for their basic human dignity."
