Donald Trump once said he would do everything in his power to "protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful, foreign ideology." Too bad in that blowhard, Islamophobic speech he conspicuously left homegrown hateful ideologies unmentioned.
Continuing his streak of not taking a single pro-LGBTQ stance since he entered office, Trump has now let the beginning of Pride month come and go without a proclamation. It's easy to forget that, after 8 years of Obama Pride announcements and White House receptions for influential LGBTQ individuals, that no sitting Republican president has ever acknowledged Pride month.
The only Trump in the White House the LGBTQ community got a nod from was Ivanka, in a series of cookie-cutter, uninformed tweets.
“Logging back on after Shavuot, wishing everyone a joyful #Pride2017. This month we celebrate and honor the #LGBTQ community.”— Ivanka Trump (@Ivanka Trump) 1496366497
“I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.”— Ivanka Trump (@Ivanka Trump) 1496366555
"I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy," she tweeted. Ivanka, sweetie, please refer to any article written anywhere and remember how "our" society and "our" economy has made it historically difficult and nigh impossible for LGBTQ Americans to contribute to. And the lack of workplace rights and general decency many LGBTQ Americans face at their jobs continues the trend, with no help from the federal government in sight.
